Haiti: Our countrymen are elected according

First Haitian American elected mayor of Spring Valley, a suburb of New York, Noram F. Jasmine and her team of four deputy mayors, three compatriots took the reins of the City of Spring Valley. A team that promised much to the different ethnic groups in this village about 40 000 people.
The first woman elected mayor of Spring Valley came into office Monday. In an atmosphere of brotherhood, members of the Haitian community in this village have invested Monday Ramapo Cultural Art Center to celebrate the accession of Noram F. Jasmin, their first fellow elected to this position throughout the State of New York. Ms. Jasmin shares the responsibilities of the District Municipality of Ramapo with three other Americans whose Haïtiano Joseph Anthony Desmaret elected at the same time as last November 3.

After the ceremony of swearing in the morning of Monday, December 7, a feast was held in the evening to celebrate the event. Protests led by Haitian artist Faustin Beaurevers have highlighted several talented operating in this village in the northwestern state of New York. Jeannette Bayardelle, Ghislaine Pierre, Hyppolite Sullyte Elie ... are, among others, Haitian voice that charmed the audience.

The problems of housing, social security and juvenile delinquency are the main concerns of Ms. Jasmin and her team hope that the cooperation of the community of Spring Valley. "Being aware of the heavy responsibilities that lie ahead, my team and I are committed to bring a substantial improvement in quality of life of our village," promised the mayor.

Noram Jasmin and his assistant Anthony Desmaret direct, Demez Delhomme, Anthony Leo, the two other Haitian American, and Joseph Gross, a Jew, must work together to administer the village of 6.5 square kilometers. Mother of two boys, the new mayor to tackle already meet the very high level of safety of this community.

Mr. Desmarais, meanwhile, believes his experience and his intellectual capacity will allow it to be "the vanguard for the proper functioning of the mayor." He promised to work tirelessly to change the status quo. "Your trust placed in me will be effectively served," says that elected that now Americans will call "Deputy Mayor".

Ms. Jasmin was the direct assistant of George Darden for four years, while Joseph Desmarais has lost his post as deputy mayor in 2007 in favor of Demez Delhomme and Anthony Leon for Mayor of Spring Valley. Following the November elections, the three former competitors fall into this same administration for the benefit of the 42 ethnic groups that make up the population of Sping Valley.
